After attending church in Waimea, we decided to do a little dress-approved sight seeing around the island. Our first stop was Mauna Kea. We drove up to the visitor's center and loved being above the clouds. The sky was so blue!
We ate our picnic lunch as we enjoyed the view, and did a little exploring around the area while we decided if we should risk the drive to the summit or not. Ultimately we decided that we didn't trust our van with anything besides a paved road after our last adventure and didn't take it to the top. We still wanted to see a gorgeous unobstructed view, so we found an easy alternative plan. We hiked to the top of a hill near the edge of the lookout where we could see the sea of clouds below with barely anything in our way. It was so pretty. I wish we had timed it right so that we could have done one of the star gazing programs up there. I can imagine that it's incredible!
The plants' leaves were tinted silver. It was pretty sweet.
Behind us is the road to the summit, where we decided not to strand ourselves.
