Well, Camille has finally left us. After four months of having her here, the house seems strangely empty with her gone. She spent the week before she left cramming in everything that hadn't been done during her stay; that included a day trip down to DC.
First stop: Washington DC Temple. Unfortunately we were there on a Monday so it was closed. But we still were able to walk around and briefly visit the Visitor's Center. You can see that Cambrie enjoyed her little souvenir.

As we were driving towards Arlington, we stumbled across the Iwo Jima monument. I have never seen it before and it was a pleasant surprise. It is a very emotional statue, seeing all of those Marines struggling to put up the flag...I was glad we stopped.
When we made it to Arlington I was feeling awfully pregnant and large, so Camille walked through by herself while Cambrie and I hung out in the Visitor's Center. She took some pretty autumn pictures of the cemetery.
Our next stop was the Museum of American History. Cambrie enjoyed the ruby slippers and Kermit the Frog, but her favorite exhibit was the hands-on kids exhibit. We played with tumbling blocks and pinwheels for about a half hour while Camille enjoyed the first lady exhibits and was able to see the Star Spangled Banner.
Next we saw the WWII memorial. (I was hoping to walked across Camille's shot just at the right moment; it appears I did.)
The Washington Monument
And Camille finished off the trip by visiting Thomas Jefferson.
By this time it was late but I was pretty positive we could find a place to eat in the city. We drove around for 30 minutes before we found a pizza place. It was the deepest, cheesiest pizza I have ever eaten. After one piece I had hit my limit even though it was very good. Since we didn't know the best way to get out of the city (besides the way we came which seemed far away by now) we asked the guys at the restaurant. The instructions they gave us seemed simple enough, "Follow Independence until it hits the 95 North to Baltimore." Okay, easy. Well, we drove, and we drove, and we drove. Forty-five minutes later we are still in DC or some part of the outskirts and had no idea where we were. When we stopped to ask for directions they told us the same thing. "Follow Highway 1 until it hits 95." Okay, easy. Twenty minutes later....we finally found the 95. Eee gads! People, if it's going to take me an hour to get to the freeway, at least warn me! Luckily Cambrie had her DVD player to keep us company, and we had leftover pizza. Remind me to never drive past the Capitol for any reason again :)
