While Jeremy was finishing up some stuff down at the race venue, the girls practiced their snorkeling skills while I laid on a beach chair and relaxed. Yes, it felt wonderful.
After he got back we went exploring. Time to forget about the race and go find some honu. We went down to Kiholo Bay to hopefully find some turtles for Cambrie. It was her biggest wish while we were there and we were going to do our best to help her find one. Well, the park closed at 7:00 and it was already 5:45 so we were going to have to be quick. We were also a little worried because there supposedly aren't a lot of turtles out in the evening, morning is a better time to spot them.
Well, Cambrie grew excited and started running down the beach. The rest of us couldn't quite keep up over the rocky terrain and followed far behind her.
Finally I caught her attention, we had to turn back in order to get out of the park before they locked the gates. She was disappointed we didn't find a turtle but then turned around and there was Peaches. Cambrie just sat and admired her new favorite friend until a wave came and washed her out to sea. It would have been cool to see a lot of turtles gathered, but I was just really grateful we saw at least one.
On the walk back we stopped to take a picture on this cool tree. The lighting had kind of gone by that point but that's all right. The sun was also red from the Kiluea eruption on the other side of the island. I was a little worried when we were preparing to leave that the smoke, ash, and haze would be a problem for our trip. There were times when the haze was thicker than usual, but for the most it wasn't too much of a problem.
I wish we could have spent more time down there, it was a beautiful bay.
