Diana's Fountain

On one of Leesa's many London trips, she found the Diana Memorial Fountain.  She had mentioned it was a great place to play, so even though we had just one day left in England we made a special trip into town to play.  It was such a great fountain!  It was a giant circle with water flowing through it all.  The cement had a bunch of different texture to it so sometimes it was smooth, sloped, bumpy, waterfall, deep, or rippling.  We packed some spare changes of clothes and let the kids get wet!

After a couple of loops the kids started finding their favorite spots.

The boys liked sending leaves floating down the ripples.  I just liked dipping my feet in the cool water.

Pretty sure they're wrestling over gummy bears here.

After we were all tuckered out, we walked to Kensington to pick up a cake stand and to find an ice-cream truck.  (Yes, the Popsicles were our lunch.  Don't judge!)

Getting home wasn't as easy as it should have been.  There was a fire on our track which meant a lot of transfers.  First we went to Wimbledon, but that was crazy and we couldn't find a train to Walton-on-Thames.  So we caught the first train to Kingston because it put us closer to home.  At Kingston we still couldn't find a train to Walton, so we found a bus.  The bus came quickly, which was a bonus, but it was a long ride through rush-hour traffic.  The bus stop didn't even take us home; we were still nearly two miles away.  That walk home was long and hot.  All of the kids were exhausted from our day in London, and it was hot.  We were out of most of our water and the walk just never seemed to end.  We alternated carrying different kids but really we just had to trudge on.  Three hours after leaving London we finally made it back to Clarence Road.  Home has never been such a welcome site!  I hope that the kids don't remember that journey as their final taste of London!
