The idea was to give the kids a fun slot canyon hike before the heat grew too intense. Well of course things are delayed with kids so it wasn't as early as we had hoped for when we made it to the trail head of Little Wild Horse. The shade definitely felt better than the sun, so when those slots came up it was great. Grandma showed them all fun techniques for climbing in narrow canyons and the kids wasted no time trying each one of them out.
When the canyons were too wide to span, they would scamper up to holes in the walls.
Check out how high Cambrie made it on this wall! Can you see her hiding in a couple of those holes?
Some of the zones were really pretty with the way the light cascaded through them.
Daxton rode for part of the hike in the backpack, but when he wanted down he did it his way. Barefoot. I've never met a more stubborn child. But he didn't complain about his feet hurting, soo...
We didn't make it to the end of the canyon before the heat started getting to us and we had to turn back around. Unfortunately the wind started kicking up about that same time too so we had sand blowing in our faces. As much as the kids liked the hike, I think they would have liked it better in April :)
