Here are a few of Cambrie's favorite things this year:
Color: green
Book: Happy Birthday Kit
Movie: 101 Dalmations
Toy: anything that's an animal
Food: French Dip sandwiches
Game: vet
Flower: lilies
Birthday present: Puzzle
For the last two years Cambrie has been begging for a bearded dragon. We've been holding her off to make sure she is responsible enough to take care of it and to make sure it wasn't just a passing fad. This year she was thrilled beyond reason when we granted her wish. I think we just won parents of the year. She woke up to find balloons hanging from the ceiling, a pile of presents and a terrarium waiting to be filled.
She had to wait until after lunch before we went to the pet store and she was just dying. On the way to Petsmart we hit traffic. She was in the back moaning, "This can't be happening to me! I can't believe it! I get a lizard! Why, oh why is there traffic?" She basically ran inside at full speed and went straight to the lizard tanks. There were four waiting to be chosen but she had her eye on the lizard that scrambled down from his perch and hurried to the glass just begging to be picked up. She held him and knew that he was the one. She had to put him back in the cage while she chose some decor for his tank but was all smiles when he was finally put in a box for her to take home. He passed through the cashier onto a ledge waiting for the cart, then as Cambrie picked him up the box fell to the ground. I couldn't believe that we had owned him for literally less than 15 seconds before he was being dropped. The employees did a quick check to see that he was okay then it was time to take him home. The drive home was rough trying to decide on a name for the little guy. He began as Spiky, then he was Flash, and finally she settled on Puzzle.
Since then she has shown that she is very ready for a pet. She gives him new food and water each morning, makes sure his lights are on correctly, cleans up his tank, and holds him very gently. He started out a little skittish but has calmed down considerably. He has even come towards her when she reaches inside his tank. I am glad she is so happy with him, because he will probably be part of our family for the next ten years.
Other presents she received was a table and chair set from Grandma for Kit, a Littlest Pet Shop treehouse from Nana, and a vet set from McKenzie. This girl had one awesome birthday!
She chose to share her cake with Kelton so we had to come up with some way to have two separate, but one unified cake. Jeremy had the idea to make a spaceship for Kelton and then give Cambrie a bunch of shooting star cupcakes. What he really wanted to make happen was to have everything hanging from the ceiling like it really was in space. It took a little work but it looked great. Cambrie even had glowing lights on her shooting stars.
Kate and Jacob came over to help us eat cake. It turned out to be a great little party.
Happy birthday my sweet girl!
