Ice Castle

On Saturday we wanted to go to Georgetown to experience their Old English Christmas we heard about.  But as we were getting ready to leave I checked the weather and changed our plans.  I did not want to be up there with two girls in 16 degrees weather with 20 mph winds.  Not my idea of a good time.  So we went to go tour Hammond's Candy Factory.  When we got there it was absolute mayhem.  Apparently it was their annual Candy Cane Festival and it attracted huge crows.  All the activities were outdoors and we were not properly dressed.  So we tried a third time and found the Ice Castle at Cherry Creek Mall, inspired by "The Chronicles of Narnia, Voyage of the Dawn Treader."  Santa was in half of it, posing for pictures, but the other half was open for play.  It was a great big dome with ice-blue walls and snow falling from the ceiling.
So much was falling that you could actually make snow angels,

and have faux snowball fights.

Cambrie loved having it settle in her hair (although it was a pain getting out), and she thought the whole thing was pretty magical.

It was so weird playing in "snow" and not feeling the winter chill in the air.  McKenzie didn't know what to make of it and just looked at all of it in a confused sort of way.  I'm just glad she didn't eat any of it.

There was also and ice throne that was actually cold.

So even though it took us three tries and an entire afternoon, we finally found a fun family winter activity to enjoy together.
