Epic Snow Day

Even though we start growing excited about winter and snow in November, we don't really receive any good snow here until March.  It's sometimes awful waiting until spring to build our snow forts and snowmen, this year it was worth the wait.  Denver received 27 inches of snow in one storm.  It's a number that is a little hard to wrap my brain around.  However both Jeremy and I have noodle arms and exhausted backs from shoveling for two days straight, and that's a little bit easier to relate to.

18 inches and still falling...

It was actually too deep to pull a boarder in the road.  Our expedition got stuck three times on our street.

The snow started Saturday night and just fell steadily for two days.  Everything was closed from Saturday-Tuesday in anticipation of the storm.  The kids had two snow days, real snow days, without any remote learning, and we made the most of it.

What a great day for an epic ride....hehe.

Jeremy and the kids have always wanted to build a snow fort as tall as the house.  I thought that was a little ambitious, but they did it!  It required a lot of shoveling, and we didn't even use all the snow in our backyard.  The finished product was incredible!  Jeremy and Cambrie ramped a slide so they could slide off the roof.

The rest of us just started at the top of the snow slide, and it was plenty thrilling.

At one point Cambrie took out the snowman mascot on top of the slide!

Later the boys added jumps which made this view just a little bit more intimating.

Daxton had room inside a castle tower.

McKenzie and Kelton dug out a series of tunnels on the other side that wove through the whole structure.

The day after we finished it we had all of the backyard neighbors over to play and they were out there for hours.  The sun came out in force which meant it was a gorgeous day to play, it also meant that our gorgeous fort only stayed structurally sound for about three days before it began to melt.

I am lucky to have such an incredible husband who is willing to help the kids build their dreams.  I mean look at this fort!
